Production Capacity

The industry estimates the production capacities of the 38 BOI registered companies at roughly 115 million pieces annually. The fourteen (14) CREMA members have an estimated production capacity of US$ 20.80 worth of ceramic items.

Factors of Production

a.      Raw Materials

Local

Red clay for terracotta manufacturers are sourced locally.  Packaging materials are also from local source. garment accessories and packaging materials, major sources are Japan, USA, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea and China.

Imported
The raw materials used in the manufacture of ceramic items are pre-mixed clay, kaolin clay, ball clay, feldspar, silica oxides, glazes, colors, plaster of Paris, which are mostly imported from Europe (United Kingdom, Germany and France) and from Asia (Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and Hongkong).

b.      Labor
Estimated number of workers employed by the decorative ceramic industry in 2000 was7,980.

c.      Packaging materials
The industry uses polyethylene bags, plastic bubble bags and carton boxes for packaging. They also use laminated boxes for some products depending on the requirements of the buyers.
